Acadian Volunteers for Cleanup Day at Cathleen Stone Island

Acadian team members recently had the chance to head out to Cathleen Stone Island Outward Bound School for a service day, assisting in cleanup efforts before the island closes to visitors for the season. It was a beautiful and breezy day on Boston Harbor, and we are always appreciative of the chance to spend time on the island in support of its vital mission to provide free experiential learning programs to Boston Public School students, boosting STEM education and personal growth.

Acadian CEO Kelly Young Speaks at Women's Foundation of Boston's Make Her Mark Event

We had the pleasure of joining the Women's Foundation of Boston for their annual Make Her Mark event, where Acadian CEO Kelly Young, CFA, CAIA was a speaker. All funds raised will further the foundation’s mission of investing in the economic advancement, leadership, and well-being of women and girls in the Greater Boston area.
Given this year’s theme of 'Celebrating Financial Empowerment,' it was only fitting that we were joined by WFB grantee and longtime Acadian community partner Danielle Piskadlo, Executive Director of Women's Money Matters – an organization dedicated to improving financial wellness and literacy for low-income women through 1:1 coaching, educational workshops, and practical support. It was an inspiring evening – bringing awareness to essential programs, connecting community leaders, and raising critical funds.

Third Summer as a UNCF Lighted Pathways Partner Concludes

Last week, we celebrated the conclusion of our third consecutive summer as a UNCF Lighted Pathways partner. We've been fortunate to welcome highly talented and driven interns to Acadian through this program, and have recently been joined by Olivia Broussard, a Lighted Pathways alum, as a full-time employee.
We are proud to support the vital mission of addressing the disparity and lack of diverse talent in asset management through scholarships and internships for students from historically underrepresented communities who are interested in the field, and we look forward to making more progress through this incredible program. Boston Scores

Last month, Acadian joined 31 other corporate teams at Gillette Stadium for the 2024 Scores Cup, hosted by Boston Scores. It was incredible to see 400+ individuals united by a love of the game and a desire to support the next generation of scholar-athletes in Boston’s public schools. Thanks to a combination of corporate support and individual fundraising, Scores raised over $320,000 to support their free soccer, academic, and service-learning programs – allowing them to help even more students in our community.

Courageous Challenge Charity Regatta

Earlier this summer, we were proud to serve as a sponsor for the Courageous Challenge Charity Regatta, which took place over four Monday nights in June for fast-paced, short-course keelboat racing in Rhodes 19s. This event supports the important work of Courageous Sailing Center, a local non-profit whose mission is to ensure that people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities have access to enjoy the water, the sport of sailing, and meaningful learning opportunities. Their programs focus on sailing and STEM programs for the city’s youth, adaptive sailing, Special Olympics training, and adult lessons. Thanks to Courageous Sailing for a fantastic experience!

UNCF Lighted Pathways internship program

As part of the UNCF Lighted Pathways internship program, our students have the opportunity to participate in numerous enrichment activities for knowledge sharing and networking throughout the summer. Most recently, the cohort was hosted by Geode Capital Management for a data analysis workshop with Bloomberg and Babson College, where they had a chance to meet industry and academic professionals and learn about the latest in investment data research. Acadian’s annual Pride Party

Earlier this month, members of the Acadian London team visited The Honeypot Children's Charity Hampshire house, lending their hands to prepare the property for the summer arrival of young carers. 1 in 12 young children in the UK spends up to 50 hours a week looking after a loved one who has a disability or long-term illness. Often unsupported and overwhelmed, their school experience is impacted, they miss making friendships, and they struggle with their mental or physical health. The Hampshire house provides a nurturing and enriching space for children to begin their respite break, create some happy childhood memories, and connect with others who are experiencing similar circumstances. Acadian UK is proud to be a longtime supporter of this mission.

Acadian Shines in Charity Run

Team Acadian recently participated in the annual Cathleen Stone Island Outward Bound School 4k Trail Run. All proceeds from the event go directly to supporting the island’s education center, providing fully funded, immersive, and experiential outdoor learning to Boston Public School students. Earlier this month, we had the honor of attending the annual New England UNCF “A Mind Is…” Gala. This is always a special night, but especially so this year, as the UNCF celebrates its 80th anniversary. Last month, members of our Acadian Singapore team hosted volunteers and youths from YGOS - Youth Guidance Outreach Services to our Asia Square office, where we held a series of career-sharing sessions as well as a holiday dinner. Community Meets Sustainability for Acadian UK

Community meets sustainability meets team-building for Acadian UK! Last week, members of our London team visited The Grahame Park Loop, a community reuse hub that collects, repairs, upcycles and sells unique, reasonably priced furniture and other household goods. During their time, the team created materials for a community awareness event, helped prepare goods for the charity’s fundraising sale, and reupholstered chairs for resale to the community.

Earlier this summer, we had the pleasure of hosting La Vida Scholars' annual College Reveal event at our Boston office. We welcomed over 50 scholars for an evening dedicated to celebrating all they have accomplished and everything they have to look forward to as they prepare to begin their higher education journeys this fall. We are delighted to be a part of this mission to expand higher-ed access and advance education equity, and we wish the La Vida Scholars Class of ’23 all the best in their college careers!

As we continue to celebrate #WomensHistoryMonth, we thought it might be interesting to look beyond some of the more well documented structural barriers (gender bias, gender roles, power dynamics) for women in the workplace. Acadian Hosts UNCF Lighted Pathways

As we conclude Black History Month, we were thrilled to host our fellow UNCF Lighted Pathways partners for an important dialogue this morning. Thank you to the dozens of you who braved the Boston elements to join us in person for this event and to everyone who joined virtually!

We welcomed Shelley Stewart, who shared research from the McKinsey Institute for Black Economic Mobility on the systemic barriers around economic development in Black communities, as well as actions and opportunities to address them. We were then joined by industry professionals for a panel discussion on representation in asset management, personal career experiences, and the importance of translating awareness into action. Thank you to Clifton Hill, Keon T. Holmes, CFA, Richard Pope, CFA, Cynthia Roberts for your insights and for emphasizing how the work we do today to develop underrepresented talent can lead to longer-term, transformational change in our industry.

 

Visit to Embrace Monument

Earlier this week, members of the Acadian team visited the recently unveiled ‘Embrace’ monument at 1965 Freedom Plaza on Boston Common, honoring the lives of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King. It was an opportunity to experience this striking remembrance firsthand and encourage a conversation about how we as an organization can participate meaningfully in Black History Month.

In celebration of Black History Month, we are sharing stories of progress and the importance of “looking back to move forward.” Acadian welcomed Jhana Senxian of The Guild Boston and Tony Van Der Meer, PhD of UMass Boston to a virtual panel with co-CEO John Chisholm on the contributions and history of local Boston communities. Jhana and Tony shared their experiences as local leaders and activists, and where they see space to shift the landscape for Black Americans in ways both big and small. This was a powerful conversation on how ‘bottom-up,’ transformational change can start with providing communities right here in Boston with practical support, tools, healthier engagement, opportunity, and empowerment.

Donation Drive with Thompson Island Outward Bound

Earlier this summer, Acadian held a donation drive to support our community partner Thompson Island Outward Bound. Employees had an opportunity to volunteer as well as donate needed gear to Boston Public School students attending a hands-on, immersive Summer Learning Expedition on the island. This is a 21-day program that incorporates outdoor challenges, science curriculum, and experiential learning. Essentials collected included reusable face masks, hand sanitizer, warm layers, and closed-toed shoes for students to be adequately prepared for their time on the island. UN’s International Day of Charity

In celebration of the UN’s International Day of Charity on September 5, we are taking time this week to spotlight some of the wonderful organizations Acadian supports around the globe. In the UK, our team works with Winston's Wish and The Honeypot Children's Charity, who provide children in crisis with a range of mental and physical health programs and services. Our Sydney-based team are longtime supporters of the Ngurra Jirrama Foundation, whose mission is to address the striking lack of educational opportunities available to young Indigenous Australians from remote areas of the country. In Singapore, our local office has worked with MILK (Mainly I Love Kids) for a number of years, supporting the important work they do to plug the gaps in social services programs and lift families out of poverty.

 

Inversant: Game Show Extravaganza!

Committing to community support through pandemic

At Acadian we are committed to supporting our #community, especially during challenging times. We were proud to support the following organizations as part of our COVID-19 crisis relief efforts: The Boston Resiliency Fund, Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB), Casa Myrna, The One Chelsea Fund, and Off Their Plate. These groups are providing support from food and meal prepping for front line workers, to shelter for vulnerable individuals, to services and resources for those at risk of domestic violence.
